Enterprise Engagement for CEOs: The Little Blue Book for People-Centric Capitalists

Text Box: Hubert Joly, Best Buy Honorary CEO Citation forQuality People Management The new book from the Enterprise Engagement Alliance is designed for proud capitalists who believe that a CEO-led strategic and systematic approach to human capital management can enhance performance and create a better experience for all.

Enterprise Engagement for CEOs (123 pages; $15.99) provides an overview of this emerging field, the framework, economics, and implementation process, as well as a review of the various tactics and considerations involved.

A CEO's Guide to Engagement Across the Enterprise coverEnterprise Engagement for CEOs features the profiles of these winning CEOs who provide a clear roadmap for CEOs or the boards or management of any type or size of organization seeking to succeed through a strategic and systematic approach to engaging all stakeholders. Enterprise Engagement goes beyond such leadership skills as empathy, respect and the ability to inspire and communicate to include the ability to strategically and systematically connect the dots between all the interested parties in an organization and the tactics used to engage them. The ISO 10018 Honorary CEO Citation for Quality People Management is meant to honor CEOs whose approach to people leadership is consistent with ISO 10018 Quality People Management standards and whose practices can be used as a clear roadmap by others. This does not represent an ISO 10018 certification for the company, but rather recognition for CEOs who have already grasped the importance of and have implemented a strategic and systematic approach to engagement. These case studies prove that the principles and framework of Enterprise Engagement and ISO 10018 standards are practical, logical, and require no new investment to implement.

The current ISO 10018 CEO Quality People Management honorees are:

Without the leadership of the CEO, it is impossible for an organization to fully engage all its stakeholders in its brand, mission and goals—customers, employees, distribution partners, vendors, communities, shareholders, etc.—or to achieve measurable ROI from the vast sums spent on customer and employee engagement. Only within the last year or so have the business and social media begun to talk about the connection between customer, employee and community engagement. In 2008, the Enterprise Engagement Alliance at TheEEA.org was the first to give a name to this strategic and systematic process to connect and align all stakeholders toward a common brand, mission, values, and goals: Enterprise Engagement

The new ISO 10018 Honorary CEO Citation for Quality People Management is awarded to CEOs who have demonstrated this strategic commitment to engagement that addresses the needs of all stakeholders and aligns the tactics used to engage them consistent with ISO Annex SL and ISO 10018 Quality People Management principles. Organizations do not need to be ISO certified to benefit from the same processes that helped significantly improve quality and safety management in the 1990s and beyond. All ISO standards are voluntary, and unfortunately many companies with an ISO certification follow the process half-heartedly only because a large customer requires it rather than out of the conviction of the CEO.

The CEOs are selected by the Enterprise Engagement Alliance on behalf of the International Center for Enterprise Engagement at TheICEE.org, which provides the first certification for ISO 10018 Quality People Management, because they have demonstrated a clear commitment to all stakeholders. Following the framework of Enterprise Engagement and ISO Quality Management principles, the EEA selects CEOs based on publicly available documents, consumer and employee ratings, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or other disclosures. This is not an employee or customer popularity contest, but rather a measure of the CEO’s commitment to a strategic and systematic approach to Human Capital Management across the enterprise that can be clearly documented.

The feature articles profiling these CEOs are meant to provide both a roadmap to current or aspiring CEOs from the point of view of other CEOs, and to help organizations understand what they have to do to achieve and benefit from an ISO 10018 certification.
