The Karma Wallet Card is a prepaid debit card designed to make it easy for people to give back to the planet with daily purchases as well as earn perks, including cash-back offers.
It’s simple pitch: “Discover the truth about the brands you love; social and environmental ratings for 18,000+ companies; explore the impact of your purchasing decisions. Earn up to 20% cashback on select sustainable purchases.”
Made from 85% post-consumer recycled plastic, the company says, The Karma Wallet Visa® Prepaid Card is issued by Pathward®, N.A., Member FDIC, under a license from Visa USA. Inc. It reports that the Karma Wallet Visa Prepaid Card is powered by the Marqeta payments platform and can be used wherever Visa debit cards are accepted.
Launched as a B-certified company, the Karma Wallet Visa Prepaid Card It bases its ratings on dozens of sources, including the Just Capital ratings. It says it offers up to 20% cashback on daily spending with sustainable, local, and ethical brands. Through the app, users can find thousands of companies with meaningful sustainability initiatives. In addition, the company says it will donate to non-profits and environmental initiatives making an impact on the planet.

The company says that every time consumers use the car for gas, “we donate to reforestation projects through One Tree Planted to offset your emissions.” In addition, every time people use the card at bars and restaurants, it donates a meal to someone in need.”
There are reportedly no minimum balances; no overdraft or bank transfer fees, and funds transferred for use on the debit card are FDIC insured for up to $250,000 through the company’s banking partner. The app will also enable people to find sustainable companies and explore company ratings.
Members receive their own Karma scare based on their transaction data and the ratings of the companies they support to calculate a Karma Score--basically like a credit score for sustainability choices, the company says—to that consumers can improve their scores by supporting more sustainable brands. Cashback offers apply to companies with a neutral or better sustainability score, it adds.
