Most organizations invest heavily in people without having a common system for determining what works, what does not, and what creates measurable value. The Enterprise Engagement Alliance has launched a new complimentary Professional Management membership designed to help corporate executives, managers, and educators bring greater rigor, measurement, and accountability to those investments.

The membership is intended for leaders in HR, sales, marketing, communications, finance, and other functions who believe employee, customer, sales, and channel engagement should be managed as part of an integrated system tied to organizational purpose, goals, objectives, and values. “To our knowledge, the EEA is the only professional organization anywhere focused specifically on engagement across the enterprise—bringing together employee, customer, sales, channel, and other stakeholder engagement within a common management framework,” says Gary Rhoads, Chief Academic Officer for the EEA.  He is Professor Emeritus, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Marriott School of Business, Brigham Young University.

Rather than treating employee engagement, incentives, recognition, communications, learning, technology, and related activities as disconnected programs, the EEA framework applies many of the principles of Total Quality Management to people and relationships. The goal is to help managers better understand how people-related investments contribute to productivity, quality, retention, customer satisfaction, sales, innovation, safety, and financial performance.

The membership designation signifies a commitment to the principles of measurable enterprise engagement rather than certification or mastery, which require additional education and testing. EEA also plans ongoing members-only briefings and discussions addressing practical management issues such as engagement measurement, connecting HR metrics with business results, incentive and recognition design, employee experience, customer engagement, and the impact of emerging technologies on people management.

Why People Are Joining

Mariia FilatovaMariia Filatova, an HR business partner with more than eight years of experience in HR operations, employee relations, workforce planning, engagement, people analytics, and strategic business partnering, joined because she sees a need for more disciplined measurement in people management. “HR has access to more data than ever, but the challenge is connecting people practices in a systematic way with organizational results. I am interested in applying a more metrics-based approach to HR management so that we can better understand what is working, what is not, and where people strategies are creating measurable value.” She recently contributed an article to ESM weekly on strategic management implementation.

Karen KellyKaren Kelly, CEO of K2 Ultimate Incentives and one of the first solution-provider members, recently earned her certification in enterprise engagement. “Clients increasingly want more than programs and rewards. They want to understand what they are trying to accomplish, how the program supports the behaviors that drive those goals, and how they can measure the results. I joined because the EEA provides a framework for bringing a more intelligent, metrics-based approach to the solutions we recommend.”

Total Quality Management Applied to People

The EEA approach is based on the simple premise that total quality management has improved organizational performance by connecting processes, measurement, and continuous improvement to clearly defined outcomes. Enterprise engagement applies similar thinking to people. That means looking across HR, sales, marketing, communications, incentives, recognition, learning, customer engagement, and related disciplines to understand how they work together rather than evaluating each activity in isolation.

As management faces increasing pressure to demonstrate the return on investments in people, EEA believes this systems-based approach can help move engagement beyond individual programs, opinions, and activities toward a professional management discipline based on measurable value creation.

Separate Membership for Solution Providers

Consultants, agencies, technology companies, incentive and recognition firms, and other organizations selling products and services to corporate management participate through separate paid Solution Provider Memberships beginning at $450 per year.

Solution providers receive access to many of the same learning and thought-leadership resources while also gaining opportunities for professional visibility, media participation, advertising, sponsorships, and other commercial activities.
