EEA Zoom Show: Dave Ulrich on Covid-19 Impact and the Case for HR

Dave Ulrich, a leading HR innovator, believes that Covid-19 will only increase the CEO focus on human capital and engagement, but that HR will have to make a business case for people investments.

UlrichDave Ulrich, Rensis Likert Professor at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and a partner at the RBL Group, a consulting firm focused on helping organizations and leaders deliver value, has published over 200 articles and book chapters and over 30 books since the late 1980s since he embarked on his effort to advance the role of human resources. Here’s his take on the state of human capital management, metrics, and stakeholder capitalism.

Covid-19 will increase CEO focus on employee engagement, not reduce it. More training is needed in strategic engagement.
Stakeholder capitalism, or whatever it's called, will succeed if it's about "profits through people," not "profits and people."
#HR can win if it can focus on making a business case for how it can contribute to the organization's scorecard.
In a nod to Jack and Patti Phillips of the ROI Institute, he says it's time for HR to drop the bright shiny objectives and focus on delivering value and ROI.
#ISO304144 human capital standards can help organizations develop more effective and measurable people practices.
People are using the term "experience" only because they haven't correctly implemented engagement." Changing the buzzword won’t solve the problem.
HR should start with the customer and the organization's business model, and demonstrate how it contributes.
